Help translate the text that appears on Pebble watches. You can improve an existing language or start a new one, all in the browser.

Choose a language → Translate → Review → Publish

Sign in with your Pebble Account

Open Pebble translations and choose Sign in. Continue with Google, Apple, or GitHub using your Pebble Account.

Sign-up is only available through Pebble Accounts, and your email must be verified. Your first sign-in creates your translation profile.

Choose your language

Open Projects → PebbleOS → Watch strings, or go straight to the language list. Click the pencil beside your language to start translating unfinished strings.

Use Filters in the editor to focus on the strings you want to work on. You can contribute a few strings at a time.

Start a new language if needed

If your language is missing, click the + on the language list (Start new translation). Choose your language, then Review font requirements.

  • Built-in fonts cover your language: continue to create the language.

  • Extra fonts are needed: reuse a suitable existing font pack if offered, or upload a regular TTF or OTF font (up to 20 MB) and its license as text or PDF (up to 1 MB). A bold font is optional. Without one, the regular font is used for bold text too.

For uploaded fonts, click Check fonts and preview. Review the coverage results and watch rendering before Create language.

Choose fonts whose license allows redistribution.

Translate and preview strings

  1. Read the English text and any context or comments.

  2. Enter your translation. Keep it concise for the watch screen and preserve placeholders such as %s and %d.

  3. Check the Watch preview. It renders your text with the real PebbleOS fonts in a 144 × 168 sample box and updates as you type, before you save. Switch text styles (such as Body text · 18 px) to match where the string appears.

  4. Click Save and continue to move to the next string, or Save and stay to keep working on this one. Skip moves on without saving.

Ordinary contributions wait for a language reviewer. Each string has a review state: Needs editing, Waiting for review, or Approved. Use Needs editing for unfinished work, and Comments to explain a question. Check the glossary for consistent terminology.

This example is shown from a reviewer account. Only reviewers can approve strings.

Test a draft language pack

Save your edits first. In the editor sidebar, scroll to Draft pack readiness:

  • Check language checks saved translations for missing characters and build problems.

  • Build draft creates a test pack. Follow its results to download the pack and try it on a watch. One pack works on every supported watch.

Both use saved translations only. A successful build does not mean the language is approved for publication.

Drafts include translations awaiting review. Strings marked Needs editing are left out.

The preview uses a sample text box, so also check real watch screens for clipping and awkward wording.

Get your translations published

A trusted reviewer for your language approves the wording. If none is assigned yet, you can keep translating. Use the site's Contact link to ask about review.

Publication currently needs:

  • At least 80% approved strings

  • An assigned reviewer

  • Passing automated checks

Published packs contain only approved translations. Other strings fall back to English.

Built-in fonts need no separate approval. Custom fonts need a maintainer to approve their license and rendering once. Unchanged approved fonts need no repeat review.

Open Publication status and font review under Draft pack readiness to see your language's reviewer, approved percentage, and font status.
