About Pebble Index 01
Index 01 is a smart voice recording ring you wear on your index finger. Press the button on the ring, talk, and the Pebble mobile app on your phone transcribes what you said, organizes it, and (optionally) routes it to other tools like Notion, Google Tasks, a webhook, or an MCP. The ring is the capture device. Your phone is the brain.
Index 01 works through the same Pebble mobile app you can use for our watches. You can use Index 01 without owning a Pebble watch, and vice versa.
What can Index 01 do?
Voice notes and reminders. Press and hold the button on the ring, then speak. Your recording is transferred and transcribed into text in the Pebble app, which then creates a note, reminder, or adds to a list.

Recording
Index 01 records on a built-in microphone and sends recordings to your phone over Bluetooth. Here are some things to know:
Speak at normal volume - Index 01 is designed to be used very close to your mouth about 3-5cm, speaking at a normal volume. It works if you're in a noisy or windy environment because the ring only picks up sound very close to it.
Up to about 2 minutes per recording. Long enough for a note, a reminder, or a short thought, not for a long voice memo.
About 5 minutes of total storage on the ring itself. Recordings transfer to your phone automatically whenever the phone is in range, freeing up space on the ring.
You can still record if your phone is out of range. Once you're back in range of your phone (within 30 mins of last recording) the queued recordings sync. If you aren't within the last 30 minutes of your last recording, click the button to sync (this is for power savings). If you fill the ring completely without syncing, the ring will be out of space until it can offload and will record over the oldest messages until you offload to your phone.
Your ring goes to sleep 30 minutes after last recording for power savings. If you ever don't see your recordings after being out of range of your phone, press the button on your ring to sync.
Button gestures
Index 01 has a single button on the ring. By default, a single click-hold is the main entry and a double click-hold is used for answers. The mappings depend on your settings.

Pebble mobile app
In the Pebble app, Index 01 has its own area with the following main views:
Index Feed (1) A timeline of your recordings, organized newest on the bottom. Tap the transcript to go into the Recording Details to show a transcription of the recording and the action taken (eg created note, reminder, added to a list, sent to an integration etc).
Recording Details - Tap any transcription in your feed to show the details. In this view you can play the recorded audio and export it. If you have an issue, go into this view and tap the bug icon - this gives us more info to fix bugs.
When listening to your recordings they may sound quiet or crackly. This is because Index 01's recording chip is optimized for AI and low power consumption.
Todos (2) This is where your todo items can be seen if you are using the Pebble app's built in reminders.
Notes (3) In this view you view your note lists as well as add new note lists. Tapping any list will show the list of individual recordings it contains.
Tapping any individual line will bring up an arrow icon. Tap that and you'll see a screen where you can edit your note or put it into a different list.
Type or hold to record (4) You can interact with the Pebble app and the Index feed without using your Index 01. Type a message into the field on the bottom of the main Index homepage or record one with your voice. Sending it will have the same results as if you recorded it on your ring. This is great for rapid fire testing without your Index
Settings
Speech recognition options (cloud vs. local vs. fallback). You choose between Cloud Only (fastest and most accurate, requires a connection), Local Only (full privacy, needs a one-time ~670MB on-device model download), or one of the fallback modes, which try your preferred option first and automatically switch to the other if it's unavailable.

Local agent option. Use Local LLM runs the AI agent itself on your phone instead of the cloud, trading some accuracy for keeping your requests entirely on-device.
Accounts. This is where you connect and manage the integrations Index sends your notes and reminders to, like Google Tasks or Notion, and where you set your Notification Shortcut for one-tap quick sends.
Backups
Backup is optional. It saves your recordings, notes, and reminders to the cloud so they're not just sitting on one device.
Everything is encrypted. No one but you, not even Pebble, can read or retrieve your recordings. Be careful: if you lose your key and delete the Pebble app, your backup can't be decrypted.
Your key is saved three ways: to your Google Password Manager or iCloud Keychain, and as a downloadable QR code.
Privacy
For the highest level of privacy, turn on Use Local LLM and turn off Backup. In that configuration, both speech recognition and the AI agent run entirely on your phone, so all processing happens on-device and nothing is sent anywhere else.
Otherwise, cloud services process the recording and then discard it, and nothing is saved. Speech recognition runs through Wispr Flow. The AI agent runs through OpenRouter, which routes requests across various LLM services, currently a mix of Gemini Flash 3.1-Lite and Anthropic Opus depending on the task.
Troubleshooting
If you aren't seeing recordings transfer to the Pebble app, follow the steps below to remove and repair your Index 01.
First unpair, find the Index 01 in your phone's Bluetooth settings and choose to forget/ unpair it.
After unpairing, reset the ring by pressing the button in an 'SOS' sequence as shown below.

Taking care of your Index 01
The microphone hole
Wear your Index 01 with the microphone facing "away" from you so when your thumb presses the button it doesn't cover it.
Talk about 3-5cm away from the ring, don't block it with finger as you're pressing
The ring is water resistant, but water can get into the mic hole reducing volume of mic.
It's best to take ring off before washing hands or showering
If you expose Index 01 to water you'll need to let it dry / dry it with a towel
Do not get cream or dirt into mic hole, it's hard to clean and reduces the recording volume
How can I clean the microphone hole?
To clean out the microphone hole in the ring, do not use tools or try to "pick" it out. Instead, press a small piece of poster putty or Silly Putty into the hole and pull it away. The putty grabs dust and particles cleanly and can be reused until the hole is completely clear.
