When to speak after pressing the button
For the best performance, wait half a second after clicking the button, and release about half a second after finishing talking. This gives the microphone time to record without the mic button sound impacting it.
What should recordings sound like?
The Index is optimized for battery life and for the transcription process. The quality of the audio you listen to may have static, crackling, or popping, which is completely normal.
If you are recording at a close distance to your ring (3-5cm) and your audio is completely unclear (not able to be transcribed), please submit a bug report.

Can I whisper into my ring?
Experiment with it! It depends on how loud your normal voice is, and we encourage you to test and see what works best for you. It was designed for speaking at a normal volume, very close to your mouth about 3-5cm. It works if you're in a noisy or windy environment because the ring only picks up sound very close to it.
How to add something to a specific list
If you make a recording without a verb the transcription will be added to "Notes to Self" by default. For example:
"Today the weather is nice"
"Summer is my favorite time of year"
"The dog needs a haircut"
If you want it to be added to a specific list, be specific!
"Add eggs to my shopping list"
"Add benchy to my 3D prints"
"Add the quote the only thing we have to fear is fear itself to favorite quotes"

Adding custom lists
It's easy to make your own lists. From the main Index screen:
Press notes
Press the + sign
Type in the name of your new list
Press Save
What is the microphone hole supposed to look like?
It's normal to see white or black through the Index 01 mic hole (some have white and some have black color microphone covers). Do not poke the hole with sharp objects.
How can I clean the microphone hole?
To clean out the microphone hole in the ring, do not use tools or try to "pick" it out. Instead, press a small piece of poster putty or Silly Putty into the hole and pull it away. The putty grabs dust and particles cleanly and can be reused until the hole is completely clear.
How long should it take for recordings to appear on my phone in the Pebble app?
After creating a recording on your Index 01, it can take around 10-15 seconds to transfer, transcribe and appear in the Index feed in the Pebble app. Actions like controlling music may take ~3-5 seconds.
How do I get AI answers from Index?
When asking a question, remember to double-click and hold to get an AI answer. The response will show as a notification on your phone.
Should I take it off when I wash my hands? What about showers?
The ring is water resistant, but water can get into the mic hole reducing volume of mic.
It's best to take ring off before washing hands or showering
If you expose Index 01 to water you'll need to let it dry / dry it with a towel
Do not get cream or dirt into mic hole, it's hard to clean and reduces the recording volume
Is it normal to not be connected to Bluetooth in my phone's settings?
Yes! Your ring is only "connected" during transfers. Try it, go into your phone's settings and watch the status of your connection change from Not Connected to Connected during a transfer then back to Not Connected afterwards.
How short can a recording be?
All recordings must be longer than 1 second.
How long can a recording be?
A recording cannot be longer than 2 minutes. Index is made for short thoughts, not recording meetings.
What happens if I accidentally press the button while in my pocket or it gets hit?
The transcription will say "transcription failed" in the Pebble app.
On iOS I can't add timers or native alarms?
Timers and native alarms are only supported on Android currently.
Google Tasks isn't accepting times for reminders
At this time, Google Tasks won't accept times for reminders.
How do I reset + re-pair my Index?
Follow the steps detailed on the Index Troubleshooting page to remove and re-pair your ring.
How do I submit a bug report? What's the best way to do it?
When submitting bug reports always make sure that you're submitting them from the Index section of the Pebble app.
Option 1: Press the bug icon on the top right corner of the main Index page.
Option 2: Click into a specific recording if the bug is about that specific recording.
From the main Index page, press See All >
